HACK YOUR BIAS
The problem
“We believe that a real community can only be formed by learning from each other. Through our speakers, participants, partners, and collaborators, we seek to learn and join the battles fought by underrepresented groups” – But how?
When we go to conferences, our behavioural patterns are much the same: We put on a name tag, we find someone we know, we explore the conference for a little while and return to those we know. We go to the speaks we planned from home.
At the same time, guests evaluate that they’d love to have met new people.
The solution
What if we as designers powered a unity to include diversity in all aspects of design?
The journey below covers before, during and after the conference where we have three initiatives for the designers to hack their bias: a quiz, a randomizer, and an evaluation.
This journey will encourage the designers to get a self-discovery about biases but also a journey with other fellow designers during the conference. The experience should make the designers aware and get new insights about the topic.

We will hack your biases through a quiz, then get you out of you comfort zone and get you meeting new people and ideas. Then you evaluate on whether you feel more aware of your biases.
02. How do we hack our biases?
Behavioural insights showed us that:
– Conference-going behavior; people usually join the conference in groups they already know.
– It’s difficult to connect with new people
you don’t know.
– We all have biases
On the basis of our research
The app can give designers at the conference insights and awareness of their own biases and take the next step towards a more diverse and inspiring design culture. It could lead to uppertunities like:
– Meeting new people
– Go to talks we’d never go to
– Creating together
– Get new ideas
– Learn something we could use onward in our lives

Biases
The purpose of the quiz, is to become aware of biases.
03. Randomizer
Hack your bias
We will hack your biases through a quiz, then get you out of you comfort zone and get you meeting new people and ideas. Then you evaluate on whether you feel more aware of your biases.
During the conference, you can use the Randomizer to hack your bias about the unconscious choices you make by choosing one of the three categories. Then it randomly decides a talk (as an example) you should attend. It will hack your ordinary conference-going behaviour, get you out of your comfort zone to those talks and workshops you wouldn’t normally go to and to meet new people.
The Randomizer chooses a talk for you
You get a description about time and place of where the talk is held.
If you’re already going to the talk or the talk didn’t catch your interest you can always go back and try once more.
Meet new people with our network starters
When you eventually find the right place for your network meeting, you will be meet by new people and one of our Network Starters – a member of our staff, that will help you start conversations with new people.
